人无远虑必有近忧，人无远见则安生不牢。做人就要做一个有主见或有想法的人，不要轻易随波逐流，不要惧怕闲言碎语，因为会随波逐流或闲言碎语的人都是没有什么主见的人，就像行尸走肉。没有主见就很少有创新，没有创新，社会就很少有进步。

有主见的人具备独立自主的能力，所以我们可以用 independent 来一定程度表示一个人是有主见的，常用于搭配 independent of sb/sth，例如：
She's a very independent-minded young woman.
她是个很有主见的年轻女子。
I need you to make a decision independent of your personal feelings on this issue.
我需要你在这个问题上做出与私人情感无关的决定。
在英语中 spirit 常作为名词，意为“精神，心灵”等，表示的是除身体以外的思想、感情或性格等，既可以是可数名词，也可以是不可数名词，例如：
The human spirit is virtually indestructible.
人的精神实际上是不可摧毁的。
The players have a very strong team spirit.
队员们有很强的团队精神。
Her spirits rose as she read the letter.
她读那封信时精神振奋。
单词 spirit 还可以用来表示具备某种品质的人，总是与形容词连用，如 brave 等，此时 spirit 是一个可数名词，那么有主见的人就是 free spirit，相当于 individualist，例如：
free spirit:

与 individualist 不一样，freethinker 或 nonconformist 等所表示的是在宗教教义或传统规范等方面有独立思想的人，例如：

Free spirit 还可以用来表示无拘无束的人，例如：

Maria is too much of a free spirit to be working in a stuffy corporate environment.

当然在表达独立自主或无拘无束方面，还有其他类似的表达方式，常见的习语还有 live your own life  和 paddle your own canoe 等，例如：
live your own life:

Now that the children have left home, I can live my own life again.
既然孩子们已经离开家了，我可以再过我无拘无束的生活了。
paddle your own canoe:
With no one managing him, he was basically left to paddle his own canoe.
由于没有人管理他，他基本上只能独自自主了。
