这是一首令人爆笑的儿歌，我在翻译的时候时时忍不住要笑出来。当然，我翻译的是完整的歌词版本，现在一般流行的是截止到called the doctor的版本，远远没有这个版本长。这首歌所讲的故事，通过歌词大家应该能看明白了，这里我也不多说。我想说的是，这首歌使我想起了我们汉语里的一首儿歌，名叫《我有一头小毛驴》，总体的思路跟这首歌很像，虽说延伸得没有这么长远。
纵观整首歌曲，我们发现它运用的主要是一般过去时，对梦里发生的事情进行叙述。贯穿全曲的一个时间词是just now，刚才，如果有介绍一般过去时和just now的需要，那么用这首歌准没错。
我们还会发现另一个情况：每一节歌词里，都是好多动词过去式开头的词组，然后第三句里出现一个主语I。这是什么意思呢？其实，这是歌曲作者在拿日记体文字和完整句子做对比。我们知道，英语日记的写法，一般是省略主语I的，那些动词过去式形成的词组，其实都是日记文字的体现；而第三句话则是提醒歌唱者和听众朋友们，这是一首歌曲，这不是日记！果然，最后我们看到，这是一个梦，是词作者逗我们玩呢！
这毕竟是一首儿歌，所用的语言还是非常简洁明快的，我们看到这首歌里极少有长词——除了operation。当然，用到这个词，也是行文的需要，无可避免。不过，作者还是做了一点小小的处理，我们看到这一节始终没有出现完整句子，因为如果再加上I had，这一节的节奏就难以做平了。
