【原】principal 和 principle 哪个有原则的意思

很多次的经验告诉我们，英语中很多拼写或拼音差不多的，意思基本上都差很多，比如 bare 和 bear，material 和 materiel，complement 和 compliment 等等，principal 和 principle 也不例外。所以想象一下，如果只知道其中的一个单词，那么在听力的时候就容易陷进去，费解和费时间。

一、principal 作形容词，意为“最重要的，主要的”，例如：
The principal reason for the failure to take action was poor communication between government departments.
未能采取行动的主要原因是政府部门之间沟通不畅。
The principal objective is to make a profit.
主要目标是盈利。
The inspector highlighted my principal concern in his opening sentence.
检查员在开场白中强调了我的主要关切。
principal 作名词，意为“大学校长，学院院长”，主要用于美国英语，例如：

The college principal made a speech congratulating all the students who were graduating in that year.
大学校长发表讲话祝贺当年所有即将毕业的学生。
二、principle 是名词，意为“原则，原理，行为准则，规范”等，例如：
No! It is against my principles!
不！这违反了我的原则！
That is a great idea in principle.
原则上这是个好主意。
The scientific principles behind even the most complicated computer are relatively simple.
即使是最复杂的计算机背后的科学原理也相对简单。

她不要家人帮忙，对她来说这是个原则问题。
He seems to have no principles at all, and is only interested in money.
他似乎一点原则都没有，只对钱感兴趣。

记忆方法：principal 后面的 pal 是“朋友，伙伴”的意思，而朋友之间没有太多的原则或规范，所以 principal 没有原则，原理的意思，那么 principle 就是原理的意思。
这两个单词发音一样，所以在听力的时候，要根据上下文来判断是哪个，不过现在放心了，词库里已经有它们了，在听力的时候结合具体的上下文进行匹配。
