经常让我们混淆的是 even if 和 even though，其中 even though 引导的从句往往是真实的，而 even if 引导的从句往往是假设性的，但是这种区分有时也不是绝对的。还有就是它们跟 even when 的区别，这让我们有的时候不知所措，不知道使用哪者才是合理的。
一、Even though 用于总是做某事或提及事实时，even when 用于偶尔做某事时，even if 是指很少做或只是想象的事情，例如：
Even though Bob studied very hard, he still failed his French tests.
尽管鲍勃学习很努力，但他的法语考试还是不及格。
解析：鲍勃总是努力学习。但不幸的是，他没有通过测试。
Even when Bob studied very hard, he still failed his French tests.即使鲍勃学习很努力，他的法语考试还是不及格。
解析：鲍勃有时学习很用功，但实际上没有什么不同。他每次学习都不及格。
Even if Bob studied very hard, he still failed his French tests.即使鲍勃学习很努力，他的法语考试还是不及格。
解析：鲍勃平时学习不努力。但在他努力学习的罕见情况下，他仍然没有通过考试。
又如：
Jerry is never happy. Even though you do everything his way, he is still dissatisfied.杰瑞从不快乐。即使你按他的方式做事，他还是不满意。
解析：你按他的方式做每件事，但他还是不满意。
Jerry is never happy. Even when you do everything his way, he is still dissatisfied.杰瑞从不快乐。即使你按他的方式做事，他还是不满意。
解析：你有时试着按他的方式做事，但他还是不满意。

解析：你试过一两次按他的方式做事，但没有什么区别，因为他还是不满意。
因此，三者的主要区别是做事的频率或真实度。

二、三者使用的合理性

合理：Even though the interview went terribly yesterday, Cheryl got the job.尽管昨天面试进行得很糟，谢丽尔还是得到了这份工作。
解析：面试进行得很糟，但她得到了那份工作。（提及事实）
不合理：Even when the interview went terribly yesterday, Cheryl got the job.即使昨天面试很糟糕，谢丽尔还是得到了这份工作。
解析：这句话是不合理的，因为很糟的面试只有一次，所以用 when 是不正确的。（只发生一次，when 是偶尔发生，也即肯定不止一次）
正确：Even if the interview went terribly yesterday, Cheryl got the job.即使昨天面试很糟糕，谢丽尔还是得到了这份工作。
解析：谢丽尔面试后你就没跟她谈过。你认为面试进行得很糟糕，但你认为她可能还是得到了这份工作。（面试好坏与谢丽尔是否能得到工作都是自己想象出来的）
不合理：Even though he wins the lottery jackpot, he won't have enough money to pay off his debt.即使他中了彩票头奖，他也没有足够的钱还债。
解析：这句话说明他总是中彩票（那么肯定有足够的钱还债）。
不合理：Even when he wins the lottery jackpot, he won't have enough money to pay off his debt.即使中了彩票头奖，他也没有足够的钱还债。
解析：这句话暗示他有时中彩票头奖（那么肯定也够还债）。
合理：Even if he wins the lottery jackpot, he won't have enough money to pay off his debt. Correct即使中了彩票头奖，他也没有足够的钱还债。
解析：他有百万分之一的可能中彩票头奖，但这不会有什么区别，因为他仍然没有足够的钱来还债。（中彩票头奖和不够还债都是假想出来的）。
